Portico, Khnum temple, Abu, Elephantine island, Egypt

Alexander IV of Macedon, 323-309 BC, son of Alexander the Great, paying homage to the ram headed god Khnum, relief, on the Ptolemaic portico at the Khnum Temple, dedicated to Nile flood god Khnum, originally built c. 3000 BC and rebuilt 30th dynasty, 4th century BC, at Abu, on Elephantine island in the river Nile, at Aswan, Egypt. The island was important in the ivory trade from c. 3, 000 BC during the 1st dynasty, and was a defensive site above the First Cataract of the Nile at the border between Egypt and Nubia.
