Portrait of Charles III, duke of Bourbon, 1490-1527, French military leader and constable of France, in the Galerie des Illustres, featuring 327 portraits of important figures from history, commissioned 1620-38 by Paul Ardier, in the Chateau de Beauregard, Renaissance chateau begun late 15th century and extended 16th century by Jean du Thier, in Loir-et-Cher, France. The painters are unidentified and mainly copied portraits from other collections. The decorative work and emblems on the woodwork and coffered ceiling are by Pierre Mosnier. The chateau is listed as a historic monument and forms part of the Loire Valley UNESCO World Heritage Site. Picture by Manuel Cohen
