Portrait of Hasday Ben Shaprut, or Hasdai ibn Shaprut, c. 915-970, doctor and translator during the Cordoban caliphate, painting, 11th century, painted at a time contemporary to Pedro, a Ubeda artist, in the Sinagoga del Agua, or Water Synagogue, Ubeda, Jaen, Andalusia, Spain. This recently discovered building is thought to be an 11th - 14th century synagogue, with yard, cellar, balcony, living room and mikveh, or Jewish ritual purification bath, fed by 7 connecting wells.
