Ulysses fleeing the cave of the giant Polyphemus, with stake piercing the giant's eye to blind him, soft ground etching, 1934-35, by Henri Matisse, 1869-1954, from Illustrations for Ulysses by James Joyce, in the Louvre-Lens, an art museum in Lens, Pas-de-Calais, Hauts-de-France, France. Matisse was commissioned in 1934 to produce 6 etchings to illustrate James Joyce's book, based on Homer's Odyssey about Odysseus journey.
