Pump House (left), a hydraulic pumping station providing electricity to the docks, now a pub, built 1878 on Hartley Quay at the Royal Albert Dock, and (right), Museum of Liverpool, opened 2011, on Mann Island at Pier Head, at night, in Liverpool, Merseyside, England. Royal Albert Dock was built 1841-46, designed by Jesse Hartley and Philip Hardwick, as warehouses, and in the distance, the The docks were the first to be built in iron, brick and stone with no combustible wood structure. The area was redeveloped 1981-84 and now houses Tate Liverpool, Merseyside Maritime Museum, Beatles Story, hotels, businesses and restaurants. Picture by Manuel Cohen
