Tombstone of Janko Alberti, 1430-93, 15th century, originally from the Cathedral of St Domnius, with relief of deceased as Renaissance knight in armour with sword and shield with Alberti coat of arms, in the Archaeological Museum, founded 1820, in Split, Croatia. Janko was a Split patrician, judge, military commander and Venetian knight. Split was founded as a Greek colony in 3rd century BC, was the seat of Roman emperor Diocletian from 305 AD and was later ruled by Byzantines, Venetians and Dalmatians.
