River Mersey, Liverpool, England
Looking across the river Mersey to Birkenhead on the Wirral, from Kings Parade on the Royal Albert Dock, Liverpool, Merseyside, England. The Royal Albert Dock, built 1841-46, was designed by Jesse Hartley and Philip Hardwick as warehouses at the docks on the river Mersey. The docks were the first to be built in iron, brick and stone with no combustible wood structure. The area was redeveloped 1981-84 and now houses Tate Liverpool, Merseyside Maritime Museum, Beatles Story, hotels, businesses and restaurants. Picture by Manuel Cohen
