The Rocca Maggiore, a fortress originally built in the 12th century, rebuilt in 1365 as a lookout, with its Maschio Tower, and modified until the 16th century, in Assisi, Umbria, Italy. Assisi is the birthplace of St Francis, was born and died here and whose remains are in the crypt of the Basilica Papale di San Francesco or Papal Basilica of St Francis of Assisi.
