Roman amphitheatre, Arles, France

Roman amphitheatre or arena, built 1st century AD, with Doric arcade on ground floor and corinthian on first floor, n Arles, Provence, France. The building measures 136x107m and held up to 20, 000 spectators, who watched gladiator fights, hunts and shows. In medieval times it was developed as a fortified city, and it now hosts bullfights.
