Royal stelae, Gebel el-Silsila, Egypt
Royal stelae, on the west bank of the river Nile at Gebel el-Silsila, an area of sandstone quarries used since the Middle Kingdom, 2034-1650 BC, in Aswan Governorate, Egypt. The stelae are dedicated to Ramesses V, c. 1147-1143 BC, Sheshong I, c. 945-924 BC, and Ramesses III, c. 1184-1153 BC. The site contains over 100 quarries, the Speos of Horemheb temple built 1323-1295 BC, 32 rock-cut chapels c. 1479-1425 BC and other stelae and monuments. Picture by Manuel Cohen
