Royal tombs, Alacahoyuk, Anatolia, Turkey
Royal tombs, early Bronze Age, 2850-2450 BC, Hatti, within the mound or hoyuk at Alacahoyuk or Alaca Hoyuk, a Neolithic Hatti and later Hittite settlement founded c. 5, 500 BC, near Alacahuyuk village in Anatolia, Turkey. 14 tombs have been excavated. They are shaft graves 1.5m deep, originally covered with wooden beams, with the deceased buried with sacrificed bulls and treasures in bronze and gold. Remains have also been found at the site from the Chalcolithic, Hittite, Phrygian, Roman and Ottoman periods. Picture by Manuel Cohen
