Salle de Beruges, with wood panelling, oil paintings, and a huge carved white oak canopy from the Notre-Dame-du-Pin abbey in Beruges, Vienne, in the Chateau de la Mercerie, a 19th century Gothic Revival chateau enlarged in Italian Renaissance style in the 20th century, aerial view, in Magnac-Lavalette-Villars, Charente, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France. The chateau was bought in 1924 by brothers Alphonse and Raymond Rethore, who built the long Italianate wing 1947-70, prompting its nickname Versailles Charentais'.
