Salon Rouge, designed 1885, with opulent velvet drapes and portraits, at the Maison de Pierre Loti, home of Pierre Loti, born Louis Marie-Julien Viaud, 1850-1923, French writer and naval officer, in Rochefort, Charente-Maritime, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France. Loti was born in the house and decorated it with collections from his travels in Europe, Arabia and Asia. It is now a municipal museum, restored from 2012, and reopened 2025, and is listed as a historic monument. Picture by Manuel Cohen
