Sarcophagus, Basilica of Sant'Apollinare in Classe, Ravenna
Marble sarcophagus with 3 crosses and Latin inscription stating that the tomb preserves the body of a thrice-blessed archbishop of Ravenna, 6th - 7th century, in the side aisle of the Basilica of Sant'Apollinare in Classe, a Byzantine church consecrated 549 AD by bishop Maximian, dedicated to St Apollinaris, in Classe, Ravenna, Emilia-Romagna, Italy. The marble plaque above has a Latin inscription dedicating the basilica by bishop Maximian in 549 AD, naming the donor Julianus Argentarius, and describing the moving of the relics of St Apollinaris.
