Schwerbelastungskorper, Berlin, Germany
The top of the Schwerbelastungskorper, a large concrete cylinder bunker or heavy load-bearing body, built by Dyckerhoff and Widmann AG in 1941 to study the feasibility of constructing a massive triumphal arch on the site, and of constructing large buildings on the area's sandy ground, Tempelhof, Berlin, Germany. The bunker was never demolished and was listed as a Historic Monument in 1995. Picture by Manuel Cohen
