Male warrior terracotta figurine from the Sanctuary of Ayia Irini in northwest Cyprus, 7th - 6th century BC, in the Cyprus Museum, or Cyprus Archaeological Museum, founded 1882, in Nicosia, Cyprus. The Bronze Age sanctuary dates from c. 1200-1050 BC, was used until the 6th century BC and excavated in 1929. The 2000 figurines are mainly male warriors with war chariots, demon servants and snakes symbolising fertility. The museum holds archaeological artefacts found on the island from Neolithic to Byzantine times. Picture by Manuel Cohen
