Sculpture, Cyprus Museum, Nicosia, Cyprus
Reclining male figure at a symposium, terracotta funerary statue, 4th century BC, from ancient Marion, now Polis tis Chrysochou, in the Cyprus Museum, or Cyprus Archaeological Museum, founded 1882, in Nicosia, Cyprus. The figurines were sculpted with sad and solemn expressions and were originally painted. They indicated high social status and are testimony to the influence of classical Greek art on Marion civilisation. The museum holds archaeological artefacts found on the island from Neolithic to Byzantine times. Picture by Manuel Cohen
