Plaster sculpture of D'Artagnan from The Three Musketeers written by Alexandre Dumas (father), by Gustave Dore, 1832-83, in the Musee Alexandre-Dumas, opened in 1905 in his home town of Villers-Cotterets, Aisle, Picardie, Hauts-de-France, France. The sculpture was designed for the base of the Monument Alexandre Dumas erected 1883 on Place Malesherbes, Paris. The museum is now housed in a 19th century mansion, and houses exhibits on Alexandre Dumas (the son), 1824-95, author and playwright, his father Alexandre Dumas, 1802-70, novelist and playwright, and his grandfather, General Alexandre Dumas or Thomas-Alexandre Dumas Davy de la Paillerteria, 1762-1806, a Creole general from Saint-Domingue.
