Serapieion, Empuries, Catalonia, Spain
Wall in front of the temple of Serapis or Serapieion, a sanctuary dedicated to Isis and Serapis, Egyptian divinities of medicine and health, built by Noumas from Alexandria in 1st century BC, at Empuries, an ancient settlement founded in 575 BC by Greek colonists from Phocaea, on the Costa Brava in Catalonia, Spain. The Serapieion consists of porticos and a tetrastyle temple in Doric style with statues of the divinities. The town was settled by the Romans from 218 BC and abandoned in the Middle Ages.
