Plan of the Oseberg Ship or Osebergskipet, a 9th century karve type clinker built ship in oak, now housed in the Viking Ship Museum in Oslo, excavated 1904 from the royal burial mound at Oseberg, in the Slagen valley, near Tonsberg, Vestfold, in the Slottsfjells Museum, Tonsberg, Norway. The ship was buried in a grave, c. 834, of 2 wealthy women, 1 of whom is thought to be queen Alvhild, along with luxurious furniture, tools, a cart and decorative textiles. Picture by Manuel Cohen
