Silver chalice, 8th century, from Reerasta, Ardagh, County Limerick, used for drinking the consecrated wine during mass, in the National Museum of Ireland a" Archaeology, a branch of the National Museum Of Ireland, opened 1890, on Kildare St in Dublin, Ireland. Most medieval metalwork was produced for use in the church. Although based on late Roman tableware, the design of this piece is recognisably Irish. Picture by Manuel Cohen
