St Roch, 16th century polychrome stone statue, in the Basilique Saint-Urbain de Troyes, or Basilica of Saint Urban of Troyes, a 13th century Gothic church in Troyes, Aube, France. St Roch was a 14th century saint invoked for the protection of plague victims, a tradition which continued into the 16th century. He is depicted dressed as a pilgrim, with hat, staff and cloak, accompanied by angel and a dog bringing bread. He shows us a pestilent boil on his leg. The basilica was founded in 1262 under Pope Urban IV and consecrated in 1382, although the building was not completed until the 20th century. It is listed as a national monument.
