Standing stones of Stenness, Mainland, Orkney, Scotland
Standing stones of Stenness, a Neolithic stone circle and henge made c. 3100-2900 BC, near Stromness on Mainland, Orkney, Scotland. Only 4 of the original 12 stones remain in place, plus a watch stone outside of the circle. The centre of the circle contains a large hearth with stone settings and dolmen. The stones were originally surrounded by a circular ditch and bank. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Picture by Manuel Cohen
