Monument to the Blessed Giuseppe Dusmet, or Statua Cardinale Beato Dusmet, bronze statue, 1935, by Mimi Maria Lazzaro, on Piazza San Francesco d'Assisi, in Catania, Sicily, Italy. Cardinal Giuseppe Benedetto Dusmet, 1818-94, was archbishop of Catania. The monument base was designed by Raffaele Leone and Silvestre Cuffaro. Catania was founded by the Greeks in the 8th century BC and was rebuilt in the 12th century after an earthquake, then again after an earthquake in 1693. Much of the Old Town features late Baroque architecture and the city is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Picture by Manuel Cohen
