Statue of King John III, University of Coimbra
Statue of King John III or Joao III, 1502-57, who based the University permanently in Coimbra in 1537, by Francisco Franco, erected in 1950, on the Paco das Escolas or Palace of the Schools complex at the University of Coimbra, Coimbra, Portugal. The University of Coimbra was first founded in 1290 and moved to Coimbra in 1308 and to the royal palace in 1537. The buildings are listed as a historic monument and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
