Statue of Mesrop Mashtots, creator of the Armenian alphabet in 405 AD, with his disciple Koryun, 1962, by Ghoukas Tchoubaryan, at the monumental staircase of the Matenadaran, or Mashtots Institute for Ancient Manuscript Research, holding a collection of over 17, 000 manuscripts and 300, 000 documents, in Yerevan, Armenia. The collection was founded in the 5th century and is listed on UNESCO's Memory of the World Register. The building was designed in Neo-Armenian style by Mark Grigoryan, built 1957 and inaugurated 1959. Picture by Manuel Cohen
