Stela of Seti I, 2nd pharaoh of the 19th dynasty, New Kingdom, 1294-1279 BC, detail, with relief of king with Khnum and Amun-Ra and hieroglyphic inscription of a prayer to Khnum, from the Temple of Khnum, in the Aswan Museum, at Abu, on Elephantine island in the river Nile, at Aswan, Egypt. The island was important in the ivory trade from c. 3, 000 BC during the 1st dynasty, and was a defensive site above the First Cataract of the Nile at the border between Egypt and Nubia.
