Stele of Sargon Il, copy of the original which was discovered 1845 (now in the Vorderasiatisches Museum, Berlin), basalt, with relief of Assyrian king Sargon Il and cuneiform inscription, in Larnaca District Museum, an archaeology museum founded 1969 and renovated 2022, containing finds from Kition and surrounding area, in Larnaca, Cyprus. The stele was erected 707 BC as a royal decree by the Assyrian king, commemorating the allegiance of 7 kings of Cyprus. A second inscription, 673 BC, by Assyrian king Esarhaddon, lists the 10 kings of Cyprus and their cities, providing evidence of independent city-kingdoms in Cyprus in the Iron Age.
