Step Pyramid, Abu, Elephantine island, Egypt

Step Pyramid, built late 3rd dynasty, c. 2620 BC, possibly a sanctuary for a cult of the ruler's statue, subsequently covered by buildings from the 5th dynasty, at Abu, on Elephantine island in the river Nile, at Aswan, Egypt. The island was important in the ivory trade from c. 3, 000 BC during the 1st dynasty, and was a defensive site above the First Cataract of the Nile at the border between Egypt and Nubia.
