Thresholds of storeroom doors, in the Lower City, Hattusa archaeological site, near Bogazkale, Corum, Anatolia, Turkey. The Lower City has been largely excavated, Hittite ruins include temples and mud brick houses for priests, civil servants, merchants and artisans. Hattusa was the capital of the Hittite empire, built in the late Bronze Age from c. 1650 BC, on an older Chalcolithic settlement founded 6th millennium BC.
