Temple of Neptune, Paestum, Campania, Italy

Temple of Neptune, or Second Temple of Hera, built c. 460-450 BC in Doric style, with 6x14 columns and triple nave, at Paestum, an ancient Greek city founded c. 600 BC in Magna Grecia, in Salerno, Campania, Italy. On the left is the corner of the Temple of Hera, built c. 550 BC in Doric style. In the centre is the Cavallo di Sabbia sculpture, 1999, by Mimmo Paladino, from the collection of MMMAC or Museo Materiali Minimi d'Arte Contemporaneo. Paestum was founded by the Greeks as Poiseidonia then seized by the Lucanians and Romans from 273 BC. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Picture by Manuel Cohen
