Islamic period tombstone with inscription, limestone, from Urfa, in Sanliurfa Archaeology and Mosaic Museums, or Sanliurfa Museum, in Sanliurfa, or Urfa, Turkey. The inscription reads: Yakubi Patriarch Mar ignatius came here in 1869 with the permission of Allah. During ceremony of holy orders of pure blessed water, a miracle occured, (water) in the water cistern jumped into the baptismal font in the courtyard of the church. In ancient times Urfa was the city of Edessa in Upper Mesopotamia, founded in Hellenistic times an an important city throughout the Roman period. Picture by Manuel Cohen
