Tordera Desalination Plant, Blanes, Catalonia, Spain
Tordera Desalination Plant, built 2002, aerial view, near Blanes, on the Costa Brava, Catalonia, Spain. Water is pumped from the sea through an underground pipe to the Tordera Desalination Plant, which desalinates the seawater and supplements the drinking water supply of the Selva region, reducing impact on the natural aquifer. The water is first filtered for sand in the white filters on the left. Picture by Manuel Cohen
