Basin, late Imperial Roman, red porphyry, used as a sarcophagus for Theodoric, whose body was removed in Byzantine times, in the circular upper chamber of the Mausoleo di Teodorico or Mausoleum of Theodoric, an Ostrogothic funerary building, built c. 520 AD by king Theodoric, in the necropolis area outside the city walls of Ravenna, Emilia-Romagna, Italy.
