Viking hall reconstruction, Midgard Viking Centre, Borre
Reconstruction, 2013, of a Viking royal guildhall or Gildehallen, with fire and bench for the ruler below shields mounted on the wall, at Midgard Viking Centre, opened 2000, Borre, Vestfold, Norway. The building was built from wood using traditional techniques, with a shingle roof, bowed walls and decorative wood carvings. 3 halls or salr have been found at Borre and were places of power and wealth, used for assemblies.
