Model of the Oseberg Ship or Osebergskipet, a karve type clinker built ship in oak, built c. 820, in the Norwegian Maritime Museum, or Norse Maritimt Museum, Oslo, Norway. The original ship was excavated in 1904 from a burial mound in the Slagen valley near Tonsberg, and the original is exhibited at the Viking Ship Museum in Oslo. It was buried in the grave, c. 834, of 2 wealthy women, 1 of whom is thought to be queen Alvhild, along with luxurious furniture, tools, a cart and decorative textiles. Picture by Manuel Cohen
