Viking ship reconstruction, Viking Ship Museum, Roskilde

Sea Stallion from Glendalough, a reconstruction of Skuldelev 2, at the harbour of the Viking Ship Museum, or Vikingeskibsmuseet, a maritime history and archaeology museum for prehistoric and medieval ships, at Roskilde, on the island of Zealand, Denmark. Skuldelev 2 was a long, narrow, ocean-going warship, skeid type, oak, built in Dublin, Ireland, c.1042, for a crew of 65-70, probably belonging to a magnate. Its construction required over 20 oak trees, 3 ash trees, 37 pine trees, 10 willow trees and 10 lime or spruce trees. Sea Stallion's maiden voyage was to Dublin and back in 2007. 5 Skuldelev ships were excavated from the water at Peberrenden, Skuldelev, in 1962. They are blockships, used to block sea invasions.
