Viking ship reconstruction, Viking Ship Museum, Roskilde

Kraka Fyr (right), original reconstruction built 1998 of Skuldelev 6, a rowing and sailing vessel used for fishing and whaling or seal hunting, built near Sognefjord in Norway, 1030, in the harbour at the Viking Ship Museum, or Vikingeskibsmuseet, a maritime history and archaeology museum for prehistoric and medieval ships, at Roskilde, on the island of Zealand, Denmark. The ship's height was increased at a later date and may subsequently have been used more for transportation than fishing. On the left is Skjoldungen, a second reconstruction of Skuldelev 6, built 2010-12, with different stem shape. 5 Skuldelev ships were excavated from the water at Peberrenden, Skuldelev, in 1962.
