Viking ship reconstruction, Viking Ship Museum, Roskilde

Ottar, built 2000, a reconstruction of Skuldelev 1, a deep sea vessel, havknarr type with square sail, built in the Sogne Fjord in Norway, repaired in the Oslo Fjord in Denmark, c. 1030, in the harbour at the Viking Ship Museum, or Vikingeskibsmuseet, a maritime history and archaeology museum for prehistoric and medieval ships, at Roskilde, on the island of Zealand, Denmark. The ship had 2 decks and a central open hold, used for trade expeditions by its wealthy owner, with a crew of 6-8. 5 Skuldelev ships were excavated from the water at Peberrenden, Skuldelev, in 1962.
