Viking ship, Viking Ship Museum, Roskilde, Denmark

Skuldelev 1, a deep sea vessel, knarr type, built in the Sogne Fjord in Norway, repaired in the Oslo Fjord in Denmark, 11th century, at the Viking Ship Museum, or Vikingeskibsmuseet, a maritime history and archaeology museum for prehistoric and medieval ships, at Roskilde, on the island of Zealand, Denmark. The ship had 2 decks and a central open hold, used for trade expeditions by its wealthy owner, with a crew of 6-8. Ottar in the museum harbour is a replica of Skuldelev 1. 5 Skuldelev ships were excavated from the water at Peberrenden, Skuldelev, in 1962. They are blockships, used to block sea invasions.
