Water basin in the Lower City, Hattusa archaeological site, near Bogazkale, Corum, Anatolia, Turkey. Hittite houses are known to have bathtubs, basins, drainage and sewage systems. They were made from mud brick and housed priests, civil servants, merchants and artisans. Hattusa was the capital of the Hittite empire, built in the late Bronze Age from c. 1650 BC, on an older Chalcolithic settlement founded 6th millennium BC.
