West Saltworks, Royal Saltworks, Arc-et-Senans

Rear facade of the West Saltworks or Batiment des Sels Ouest, where the water was evaporated from the brine in huge iron basins, part of the Royal Saltworks or Saline Royale, begun 1775 in Neoclassical style by architect Claude Nicolas Ledoux, 1736-1806, at Arc-et-Senans, Doubs, Bourgogne-Franche-Comte, France. The site is designed in a semicircle, with the Director's House, 2 saltworks containing drying ovens, heating pots and salt stores, workers accommodation and Director's stables.
