Dr Osbert Guy Stanhope Crawford, eminent archaeologist, appointed in 1920 to the position of Archaeology Officer of the Ordnance Survey in Southampton, a position he held until 1946. He was a pioneer in the use of aerial photography to assist archaeological study of landscapes
