Elsie Janis & Basil Hallam in the Passing Show
A page from The Sketch magazine showing scenes from The Passing Show, the popular revue of 1915, starring American actress, Elsie Janis and British actor and heart throb Basil Hallam. Hallam's character, Gilbert the Filbert lampooned the dandy swell of pre-war days. He joined the Kite Balloon Section of the Royal Flying Corps later that year and was killed in August 1916 as his balloon drifted towards enemy lines and his parachute became entangled in the rigging
