Gertie Millar in a trouser suit, 1916

Gertie Millar (1879-1952), popular music hall and stage actress, pictured, suited at all points like a man, in other words, wearing a cool and comfortable silk pyjama suit in which to play tennis. At the time of the photograph, Gerties was coming to the end of the run of the popular Bric-a-Brac at the Palace theatre and was next to be engaged in a Charles Cochran production at the new St. Martin's Theatre in September 1916
