With stumps pulled on a Thursday evening at Southampton when Hampshire required just one run to complete victory over Nottinghamshire, the teams were obliged to return the following morning to finish the match. Seeing no point in putting on their cricket whites, the Nottinghamshire team took the field in lounge suits and soft hats.
