Queen Elizabeth's Sewing Bee at Buckingham Palace 1939

Members of the Palace household and wives of employees of the Royal Mews assembled in the Blue Drawing Room at Buckingham Palace for Queen Elizabeth's Sewing Bee, held twice a week during World War II in order to produce garments and surgical dressings for the Red Cross. The women can be seen sat at trestle tables in what is one of the most beautiful of the State apartments in Buckingham Palace, and was originally Queen Victoria's ballroom
