War dog attached to a French motor ambulance
A canine Red Cross worker attached to a French motor ambulance during World War I. Trained dogs were not only used to hunt for the wounded in outlying parts of the battlefield, but also to enter the fiery zone in battle. Each bored a Geneva red cross badge and carried on its chest a little case with stimulants and first aid requisites
