With the Chindwin force in Upper Burma-an attack on a fortified position at Toung-ta-long, near Kindat, 1887. On this occasion, Lance-Naik(Lance-Corporal)Bhagat Bir, 18th Bengal Infantry, gained a Third Class of the Order of Merit for conspicuous gallantry in leading the way up an almost inaccessable path
