Ptolemy I Soter I (Soter meaning Saviour), also known as Ptolemy Lagides, a Macedonian general under Alexander the Great who became ruler of Egypt (323-283 BC). He founded the Ptolemaic Kingdom and the Ptolemaic Dynasty; in 305/4 BC he took the title of pharaoh. Seen here in profile, wearing armour, with a small crocodile on his head to represent Egypt
